Basil-Infused Summer Smoothies

A new way to enjoy all of the potential benefits of Basil — summer smoothies!

Eastern Medicine: Luo le treats adrenal insufficiency, depression with mental and physical exhaustion, fainting, epilepsy, coma, low back pain, indigestion, bloating, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, insomnia, anxiety, and promotes blood circulation after child birth.

Western Medicine: may be beneficial for fevers, memory and concentration, headaches, anxiety, stress and tension, nausea, constipation, cramps, insomnia, and coughs. It also supports the kidneys and bladder, as well as a healthy gut.

We’ve got three yummy Basil-infused smoothie recipes for you to try - including my favorite smoothie!

My Favorite Smoothie - Basil-Infused!

Ingredients

  • 12 oz. Coconut Water

  • 1 c. frozen or fresh pineapple

  • 1 c. fresh or frozen mango

  • 1 kiwi, peeled

  • 1-2 handfuls of spinach

  • 1-2 handfuls baby kale leaves

  • 5-6 basil leaves

Instructions

  • Tip: The baby kale leaves are more tender (but not necessary).

  • Blend well and enjoy!

  • I'm a right brain creator in the kitchen, so play around with the amount of ingredients.

  • This smoothie should be sweet, but have a delicious green flavor. I prefer a thicker, more dense smoothie, feel free to adjust for your preferences.

Pineapple-Basil Smoothie

3/4 cup fresh or frozen pineapple chunks

5-6 basil leaves

3/4 cup plain yogurt or kefir

1 tsp raw honey

1/2 tsp chia seeds

2-3 ice cubes

Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 60-90 seconds or until smooth!

Apple-Basil Smoothie

1 large apple, chopped

3/4 cup plain kefir or yogurt

5-6 large basil leaves

1 tbsp raw honey

1/2 tbsp lemon juice

2-3 ice cubes

Place ingredient in a blender and blend until smoothie, about 60-90 seconds.
