Acupuncture for Women’s Health - Including Fertility and Menopause

There’s a reason that acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine have been practiced for thousands of year - it works! When it comes to women’s health, acupuncture has been found to balance hormones naturally, as well as impact mood, stress, and other factors that can influence reproductive and overall health.

Roughly 8-12% of couple struggle with infertility, and that number is growing. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is believed that infertility occurs due to the disruption of vital balance as well as blockages in the Qi energy and blood circulation. Acupuncture has been found to increase blood flow, including to the reproductive organs, which can help normalize ovulation and help women conceive! In one study conducted by the National Institute of Health, women had over a 50% success rate when getting acupuncture for infertility. Another study found nearly double the pregnancy rate when women were treated with acupuncture during embryo transfer as opposed to the control group who did not receive acupuncture. Other research has found great results for infertility for both men and women. It has been found to improve sperm quality and ovary function, plus balance hormones and the endocrine system.

Acupuncture can be used alone or with other Traditional Chinese Medicine or even Western medical techniques. Besides the direct impact on blood flow, ovary function, and hormones, acupuncture also improves overall health, which can make pregnancy easier to achieve, reduce miscarriage, and even help you recover faster after giving birth!

Research has also found that acupuncture can significantly reduce symptoms of menopause. Noted benefits include hot flashes, energy/fatigue, mood, night sweats, sleep issues, severity and/or frequency of sweating, migraines and headaches, and skin and hair issues. What’s more, acupuncture is not only effective, it comes without the side effects of other treatment options. Hormone replacement therapy has been linked with increased risk of breast cancer, uterine cancer, heart attack, and stroke.

In addition to infertility and menopausal symptoms, many have found relief and improvement from other common women’s health issues, including:

  • Pain and cramps

  • Irregular menstruation

  • Pain/Bleeding due to fibroids

  • Endometriosis

  • Cervical dysplasia

  • Mood swings

  • Breast tenderness

  • Morning sickness

  • Postpartum depression

  • Bloating

  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
